Publish a Thing to the Marketplace
Share a Thing as open source in one go: Solid Vibes fills in the listing from your model (cover, description, parameters, tags, printability), freezes it as version 1.0.0 and lists it for everyone. How releases and new versions work.
The Marketplace is open source for physical things: a library of public Things that anyone can find, rate and remix into their own designs. Publishing takes a minute because Solid Vibes writes most of the listing for you from the model.
Start publishing
Open the Thing, then use any of these:
- Share → Publish… in the Thing's header.
- The ⋯ menu on a Thing card → Publish to Marketplace…
- ⌘K (Ctrl+K) → type "publish".
What gets filled in for you
| Part of the listing | Where it comes from |
|---|---|
| Title | The Thing's name |
| Summary, description, tags, category | Guessed from the name, pieces and joints. Press Draft with AI to have the agent write them from your Recipe and parameters (1 credit by default). Everything stays editable, and Undo brings back what you had. |
| Cover image | The editor snapshot, a Render Studio render, or any angle of the 3D viewer ("Use this view"). Add more angles or renders to the gallery. |
| Parameters | Every real knob of the model with its value and range (formulas that follow from other values are left out). Untick the ones that don't matter. People search by them: "hinge for a 3 mm lid" finds a hinge whose lid thickness is 3 mm or can be set to it. |
| Size and printability | Measured and checked on our servers when you release: overall size, an FDM printability score and the issues the Make page would show. |
| License | CERN-OHL-P 2.0 by default. See Licenses for public Things. |
Versions you can trust
Each release has a semantic version like 1.2.0 and a short "what changed" note.
- Fix (
1.0.1): a small correction that doesn't change how it fits. - Improve (
1.1.0): better, still compatible. - Breaking (
2.0.0): different sizes or holes, so people need to check before they update.
A release is frozen: your working copy is committed and tagged in History as v1.2.0, so the listing (and anyone who remixes it) always gets exactly what you released, while you keep editing. To ship your changes, open the listing and press Release a new version. To fix a typo without a new version, choose Edit details only.
Publishing makes the Thing public
A listing shows a public Thing. Publishing a private Thing makes it public under the license you picked, which frees one of your private slots. If you later make it private again, or move it to the Trash, the listing leaves the Marketplace; publish it again from Your listings. Copies people already remixed stay theirs.
Your listings
Your listings (in the sidebar under Marketplace, or ⌘K) shows every listing with its remixes, ratings, prints and comments, lets you unpublish or publish again, release new versions, edit your creator profile (name, handle, bio, website) and see the credits you earned.
Try it
Make a quick hinge or bracket, open Share → Publish…, press Draft with AI, check the parameters and publish. Then search the Marketplace for it by size.
