3D comments, mentions and notifications
Pin a comment to the exact spot on the model, @mention a teammate, reply, resolve, and follow it all from the notification bell. Works in the editor, on review requests and through comment links.
A comment in Solid Vibes points at the thing it is about. Instead of "the wall on the left, near the hole", you drop a pin on that wall and write "too thin here?". Everyone who opens the Thing sees the pin in 3D.
Pin a comment
- Press C in the editor (or open ⌘K and choose Comment, or right-click a flat face and pick Comment on the ring).
- Click the spot on the model. A small composer opens next to the pin.
- Write your comment and press Enter (Shift+Enter adds a line).
Pins are numbered. They stay on their piece when you move, explode or hinge it, because the pin is stored in the piece's own coordinates. Press Esc to leave comment mode without pinning.
Not everything needs a pin: the Comments tab in the right column has a box at the bottom for a general comment.
Mention someone
Type @ and the first letters of a name, then pick the person from the list (arrows and Enter work too). Mentioned people get a notification that opens the Thing with the thread in focus. You can mention:
- members of the Thing's workspace,
- people who signed in and commented through a comment link on this Thing.
Visitors without an account can comment through a comment link, but they cannot mention workspace members.
Reply, edit, resolve
- Reply keeps the conversation in one thread.
- Edit or Delete your own comments from the … menu (workspace admins can remove any comment).
- Resolve a thread when it is handled. Resolved pins turn grey and hide under the Open filter; switch to Resolved or All to see them again. Anyone with the reviewer role or higher can resolve and reopen.
"On an older version"
Every thread remembers the commit it was started on. When the design has moved on since (a newer commit on the branch), the thread shows On an older version, so you know the model may have changed under the pin.
The Comments tab
The right column shows a Comments tab (the speech-bubble icon with the open count) once a Thing has threads. Click a pinned thread and the camera flies to its pin and opens it. Filters: Open, Resolved, All.
Notifications
The bell in the top bar shows how many notifications you have not read. You hear about:
| Notification | When |
|---|---|
| Mention | someone @mentions you |
| Reply | someone replies in a thread you started or joined |
| New comment | someone comments on a Thing you created |
| Review requested | a teammate asks you to review a branch |
| Review decision | a reviewer approves or asks for changes on your review |
| Merged | a review you are part of was merged |
Click one to jump straight to the thread or review. Mark all read clears the badge. The bell updates live; if the live connection drops, it catches up on its own.
Who can comment
| Role | Comments |
|---|---|
| Owner, Admin, Editor, Reviewer | Read, write, reply, resolve |
| Viewer | Read only |
| Comment or edit link | Read and write (pinned or general), as the signed-in visitor or with a name |
| View link | Nothing by default; the owner can turn on Show comments for that link (read only) |
Comment links need a plan with comment links (Maker and up). If the plan changes, links stop accepting new comments but nothing is deleted.
Try it
Open any Thing, press C, click a face and write something like "@Sam can this wall take an M3 heat-set insert?". Sam gets a notification that opens this exact spot.

Ideas
Review requests: pull requests for hardware
Ask a teammate to check a branch before it lands on main: they see the 3D visual diff and the numbers that changed, pin comments on the exact spot, and approve or ask for changes. Merge once it is approved.
