Selections and "this": point, then speak
How the agent resolves 'this', 'here' and 'these' to the faces, edges and pieces you have selected, and how to avoid ambiguity.

Naming parts of a 3D model in words is hard ("the outer edge of the second step on the left side"). Pointing is easy. Solid Vibes lets you do the easy thing and fill in the rest with a word like this.
How it works
- Select something in the viewport: a face, an edge, a whole piece, or a point.
- Say or type a request that includes "this", "here", "these", or "that".
- The agent receives your request together with a description of the selection, such as "top face, 80 by 50 mm", and resolves the word to it.
Make this 3 mm thinner.
Add a 4 mm hole here, centered on the face.
Round these edges with a 2 mm radius.
Your selection stays attached while you talk, including in Live voice mode, where your current selection is shared with the voice session so "this" keeps resolving correctly.
What you can select
| Selection | Typical use |
|---|---|
| Face | Thinner, thicker, add holes, shell, sketch on it |
| Edge | Fillet, chamfer |
| Piece | Move, rename, change material, focus on it |
| Point | Put a hole, a boss or a label at a location |
| Several of any of these | "These" gets applied to all of them |
You can select several items at once, and a single request can reference up to 50 of them.
Select similar
Instead of clicking twelve holes one by one, select one and ask:
Select all the holes like this one.
You can then act on all of them: "make these 3.4 mm instead".
What the agent does with your selection
The agent does not remember "face number 17". It turns your pick into a selector, a description by meaning: "the planar face pointing up, nearest this point", or "the cylindrical faces of radius 1.7 mm". That means your edit survives later changes to the model. The Recipe step says what it targets in words, so you can read it later. For details, see Selectors and topological naming.
No selection? It asks.
If you say "this" with nothing selected, the agent has nothing to resolve the word to. When its confidence is low it asks what you mean instead of guessing, and that is a feature. You can also describe the target in words without selecting: "the top face" or "the front-left corner".
Common mistakes
| What goes wrong | Fix |
|---|---|
| You said "this" but selected the whole piece instead of a face | Click the specific face first. Check the selection label |
| You clicked after you started talking | The agent uses the selection at the moment it received the request. Select first, then speak |
| The face you wanted is hidden behind another | Orbit around it, or use Focus (double-tap the piece) to fade everything else |
| "These" changed more things than expected | The selection was bigger than you thought. Check the count shown in the selection label |
| A change landed on the wrong side | Say which side: "the face at the front", "the top face" (top means up) |
Combining with other inputs
Selection works with every channel:
- Typing: select, then type.
- Push-to-talk: select, hold Space, speak.
- Live voice: select as you chat. The agent sees your latest selection.
- Images: attach a screenshot of your model with a circle on it and describe the change. The agent treats that as a markup.
Ask questions, too
"This" works for measuring:
How far is this from that edge?
What is the clearance between these two faces?
You get an answer on the model without reaching for a measuring tool.
Try it
On any model:
- Click one hole.
- Say, or type: "Select all the holes like this one."
- Then: "Make these a clearance fit for M3."
Read the ghost preview. Every hole of that size should change together.
