Full screen and installing Solid Vibes as an app
Get more room for your model: go full screen with one click, or install Solid Vibes so it opens in its own window without the browser's address bar and tabs.
The address bar and the tabs of your browser take a lot of room, and a 3D model likes room. There are two ways to get it back: full screen (any time, any browser) and installing Solid Vibes as an app (once, then it always opens in its own window).
Full screen
Full screen hides the browser's bars and shows the whole of Solid Vibes, not only the 3D view. The panels, the prompt bar and the command palette all keep working.
There are three ways to turn it on:
- Click the Full screen button at the bottom of the little control column at the right side of the 3D view (under home, fit, zoom and the perspective switch). Hover over it to see its shortcut.
- Press Option + Enter on a Mac, or Alt + Enter on Windows and Linux, when you are not typing in a text box.
- Press ⌘K, type
full screenand choose Enter full screen. While you are in full screen the same search offers Exit full screen.
To leave full screen, press Esc, click the same button again, or use Exit full screen in ⌘K. The button lights up while you are in full screen, and follows along if you leave with Esc.
If you do not see the button
Some browsers cannot make a web page full screen, most notably Safari on iPhone. There the button is hidden. Installing Solid Vibes as an app (below) gives you the same full-window feeling. In ⌘K, Enter full screen is greyed out and says the same.
Install Solid Vibes as an app
An installed Solid Vibes opens in its own window, with no address bar and no tabs, and gets its own icon in your Dock, taskbar, Start menu or home screen. It is still the same web app: the same account, the same Things, and it always has the newest version.
In Chrome or Edge (Windows, Mac, Linux, Android)
- Open Home. After you have visited a few times, a card says Install Solid Vibes as an app. Click Install.
- Confirm in the dialog that your browser shows.
You can also open your profile menu (your picture at the top right) and choose Install as an app, press ⌘K and choose Install as an app, or use the install icon at the right end of the address bar. The menu item and the ⌘K command only show up when your browser can install the app, and never inside the installed app.
In Safari on a Mac (Safari 17 or newer)
Choose File → Add to Dock (or the Share button, then Add to Dock). The profile menu's Install as an app shows the same steps.
In Safari on an iPhone or iPad
Tap the Share button, then Add to Home Screen.
On these browsers the card on Home shows these steps instead of an Install button, because Safari does not let a web page open its own install dialog.
While you set up your account
The short welcome questions after sign-up include one optional step, Install Solid Vibes as an app, when your browser can install it. Choose Install, or Not now to skip it. If you install or skip it there, the card on Home does not come back.
The card on Home
- It appears only on Home, never while you are working on a Thing.
- It waits until you have come back a few times.
- Close it with the x and it stays away on that browser.
- You never see it inside the installed app.
Signing in with the installed app
Sign in works as usual. If you sign in with an email link, the link opens in your normal browser. That is fine: you are signed in there, and when you return to the Solid Vibes window you are signed in too (reload the window if it still shows the sign-in page). Google, Apple and GitHub sign-in open in a small window and bring you back.
Uninstalling
Remove it like any other app: in Chrome or Edge open the app, click the three dots in its title bar and choose Uninstall. On a Mac drag it out of the Dock or Applications. On a phone, press and hold the icon. Your Things stay in your account.
Try it
- Open any Thing and click Full screen at the bottom right of the 3D view.
- Press Esc and watch the button go back to normal.
- Press ⌘K, type
install, and see whether your browser offers Install as an app.
